CODE = PD20:This is the best way to see all the highlights of the Gibb River Road, breathtaking panorama of the Mitchell Plateau and the mystic Bungle Bungle Range. An adventure tour covering most of the major attractions between Broome and Kununurra including Windjana & Manning Gorges, El Questro's Emma Gorge.
Day 1: Broome - Windjana Gorge
Depart Broome at 7am and travel to the Derby Prison Tree for a short visit.We now leave the bitumen behind us as we enter the Gibb River Road, almost instantly we can feel the remoteness. A walk up Windjana Gorge this afternoon is sure to impress. Camping overnight Windjana National Park. (L/D)
Day 2: Windjana Gorge - Bells Gorge
This morning we're off to Tunnel Creek, have your bathers and torches ready. This amazing tunnel cuts through the Napier Range and is rich in history, ask your guide. Afternoon sees us off to Bells Gorge. Camping overnight Silent Grove. (B/L/D).
Day 3: Bells Gorge - Mt Barnett Station
Leaving Bells Gorge this morning, we travel through the beautiful scenery of the Kimberley's highest mountain range, King Leopold Ranges, on our way to Galvans Gorge. This Gorge will tempt you to don the bathers. For those feeling like a walk, a visit to Manning Gorge this afternoon is recommended. Camping overnight at Mt Barnett Station. (B/L/D)
Day 4: Mt Barnett Station - King Edward River
Today we leave the Gibb River Road and travel on Kalumburu Road to Mitchell Plateau, visiting Drysdale River Station. Our camp will be on the banks of the river, an afternoon dip here, and a chance to explore the area before dinner is a must. Camping overnight King Edward River.(B/L/D)
Day 5: Mitchell Plateau & Falls
We make full use of our 4WD capacity today, to take us to the Mitchell Plateau. Livistona palms abound in this rugged region. Experience an optional helicopter flight over these falls, you can see some of the remotest country in the world. While swimming and overlooking the cascading falls, take a moment out, realising just where you are on the map. Camping overnight King Edward River.
Day 6: King Edward River - Home Valley
This morning we visit aboriginal paintings in the area, we must now depart our river camp and Mitchell Plateau and travel back down Kalumburu Road to rejoin the Gibb River Road. Tonight we camp at Home Valley Station (B/L/D).
Day 7: Home Valley - Kununurra
Our journey today takes us through the majestic Cockburn Ranges, have your camers ready as we wind our way towards El Questro Station. A walk to stunning Emma Gorge, with a rewarding swim in the crystal clear waters before continuing on to our final stop at Kununurra. (B/L)
Day 8: Kununurra
A free day to enjoy the many attractions of Kununurra. Some suggestions for your free day - visit the plantations in the area, take a boat cruise along the Ord River, or on Lake Argyle, book a fishing trip on the lower Ord River, or take a flight to Arygle Diamond Mine. These are only some of the optional tours available to you. Camping overnight Kununurra. (B)
Day 9: Kununurra - Bungle Bungles
Depart Kununurra and drive via the scenic RAGGED RANGE onto Turkey Creek, where we have a short stop. We had to the Bungle Bungles turn off and 53kms drive on a very scenic, but winding dirt road via the magnificent OSMAND RANGE. We arrive in time for lunch at the Northern Gorges. Afternoon walk in ECHIDNA CHASM and MINI PALMS (time permitting), before arriving at our overnight camp on sunset. (B/L/D).
Day 10: Bungle Bungles-Kununurra
This morning we head to the southern end for a walk through the Bee Hive area of PICCANINNY CREEK and CATHEDRAL GORGE. An optional helicopter flight available today gives us the advantage to view these magnificent formations close up from the air before returning to Kununurra. (B/L/D).
