13 Day Kimberley & Kakadu Escape: Broome to Darwin

Itinerary

Day 1: Sat. Broome, Cable Beach.
Welcome to the gateway of the Kimberley! Broome lies between a vast red desert and an azure blue sea, and was founded as a pearling port over a century ago. On arrival into Broome, transfer to the luxurious Cable Beach Club Resort and unwind as you watch the changing colours of the sun setting over amazing Cable Beach.Two Night Stay: Broome, Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, right opposite the spectacular beach.

Day 2: Sun. Broome, Freedom of Choice Touring, Ocean Sunset, Dine Around Dinner.
Choose your touring activity today. Experience a hovercraft flight over the Roebuck Bay mudflats, take a Pearl Lugger museum tour and discover Broome's history or enjoy a sunset camel ride on Cable Beach. This evening, enjoy our Dine Around Dinner where food lovers will be spoilt for choice, with plenty of world-class epicurean delights on offer, from modern Australian to exotic Asian cuisine. Day 3: Mon. Derby, Boab Prison Tree, Windjana Gorge, Fitzroy Crossing.
Visit the Boab Prison Tree near Derby. This strange looking hollow 'Boab' or 'Baobab' functioned as a prison for rebellious Aboriginals when they resisted the European invasion. Aboriginals also used these giant trees for shelter, food and medicine.  Next, travel to Windjana Gorge National Park. This amazing place contains ancient marine fossils embedded in the walls that once formed part of an ancient coral reef system. Stay: Fitzroy Crossing, Fitzroy River Lodge. Bx1 Dx1

Day 4: Tue. Geikie Gorge Cruise, China Wall, Halls Creek.
Travel to Geikie Gorge National Park and see the limestone cliffs and embedded fossil remains on a cruise with a ranger. This is one of Australia's most spectacular waterways and home to an abundance of wildlife, including freshwater crocodiles, fruit bats, wallabies, dingoes and many species of birds. Afterwards, take some interesting photographs of China Wall, a sub-vertical quartz vein protruding up to six metres from the surrounding surface. This afternoon head to nearby Halls Creek, a small, predominantly Aboriginal settlement.Stay: Halls Creek, Kimberley Hotel. Bx1 Dx1

Day 5: Wed. Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine, El Questro.
Tour the Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine and gain an insight into the operation of the mine - from sorting and processing, to selling these beautiful, polished diamonds around the world. Later this afternoon, arrive at El Questro Wilderness Park. Two Night Stay: El Questro, Emma Gorge Resort, tented cabins with ensuite bathrooms. Bx1 Lx1 Dx1

Day 6: Thur. El Questro, Freedom of Choice Touring, Zebedee Springs, Emma Gorge.
This morning explore El Questro. Choose a picnic at Emma Gorge Resort, enjoy the Bush Tucker and Historical Tour or cruise through Chamberlain Gorge. Later unwind by the pool at Emma Gorge Resort, perhaps visit the thermal pools of Zebedee Springs or walk to Emma Gorge for a refreshing swim in the waterhole. Bx1 Dx1

Day 7: Fri. Wyndham, Kununurra.
Head to Wyndham, Australia's most northerly port. Enjoy spectacular views from Five Rivers Lookout then on to Kununurra. Two Night Stay: NEW! Kununurra, Country Club Resort. Bx1 Dx1

Day 8: Sat. Kununurra Town Tour.
Enjoy your morning at leisure and in the afternoon tour the town of Kununurra and discover its history. Bx1

Day 10: Mon. Katherine Gorge Breakfast Cruise, Darwin.
Visit Nitmiluk National Park and enjoy a breakfast cruise along Katherine Gorge with commentary on Aboriginal art, local plants and wildlife. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner and drinks tonight in Darwin.

Day 11: Tue. Darwin, Botanic Gardens
Tour the sights of Darwin, including the tropical Botanic Gardens and Fannie Bay. Enjoy time this afternoon and evening at leisure. Bx1

Day 12: Wed. Kakadu National Park, Ubirr Rock Art, Guluyambi Cruise.
Travel to Kakadu National Park and visit rock art sites at Ubirr, then cruise the East Alligator River with an Aboriginal guide. Gain an insight into local Aboriginal mythology and bush survival skills required for this wilderness environment.  Lx1

Day 13: Thur. Darwin.
